GCSE and A-level Drama specification changes: new editions of set plays

Published: Monday 11 Sep 2023

We've updated the 'Subject content' section of our GCSE Drama and A-level Drama and Theatre specifications to reflect changes to the prescribed editions of set plays.

We've made these updates because the editions we'd originally prescribed are no longer available. The set plays affected are The Crucible and Our Country's Good.

For GCSE Drama (8261), learners studying The Crucible may use either the old edition (ISBN 978-1408108390) or the new edition (ISBN 978-1350245778).

For A-level Drama and Theatre (7262), learners studying Our Country's Good from List B for exams in summer 2024 and summer 2025 may use either the new edition (ISBN 978-1350097889) or the old edition (ISBN 978-0413692306). For exams in summer 2026 and beyond, learners must use the new edition (ISBN 978-1350097889).

Please note there are no changes to the editions listed for A-level Drama and Theatre List A because specific editions are not prescribed for these plays. The editions listed for List A texts are those we use to set questions.

You may use different editions of these plays, but we recommend you source a copy of the one we use to make sure it's similar. This will enable your learners to access the questions on the paper. Adaptations are not appropriate.

The updated specifications can be found on our GCSE Drama and A-level Drama and Theatre qualifications pages.
