Formulae and equations sheets for exams in 2024
Published: Friday 12 Jan 2024
The Department for Education (DfE) and Ofqual have confirmed that full equations and formulae sheets will be provided for GCSE Maths, GCSE Physics, and GCSE Combined Science exams in 2024 only. We can also confirm that we’ll provide formulae sheets for our Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics (8365) exams in 2024 as well.
This decision is to account for young people taking GCSEs in the summer and in November, who will be the last learners to experience two years of national closures during secondary school. So to recognise that, Ofqual and the DfE feel it’s right that they have some additional support.
The DfE and Ofqual have also confirmed the return to normal exam arrangements for these subjects in 2025. Formulae and revised equations sheets will not be available after 2024.
Maths
The content of the formulae sheets for 2024 hasn’t changed, and they are the same ones which were used in 2023. Students can still use these versions for revision and exam practice.
The 2024 versions are now available in 'Assessment resources' on our qualification pages:
- GCSE Maths (8300) (Foundation and Higher tiers)
- Level 2 Certificate in Further Maths (8365)
The 2024 sheet will also be provided as an insert with every question paper.
Sciences
The content of the equations sheets for 2024 hasn’t changed, and they are the same ones which were used in 2023. Students can still use these versions for revision and exam practice.
The stems of questions assessing recall and application of physics equations are the same stems used last summer and direct students to use the physics equation sheet in the appropriate questions.
The 2024 versions are now available in 'Assessment resources' on our qualification pages:
The 2024 sheet will be provided as an insert with the separate Physics (8463) papers 1 and 2, Combined Science: Trilogy Physics (8464) papers 1 and 2 and all four Combined Science: Synergy (8465) question papers.
