AQA Unlocking Potential 2021 launches
Published: Monday 8 Feb 2021
Eighty students have begun their journey on this year’s AQA Unlocking Potential programme.
AQA Unlocking Potential is a unique mentoring programme for young people aged 11–19, run jointly with the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. Now in it’s tenth year, the programme has engaged 500 young people from schools across the country.
Due to the current situation we couldn’t hold the launch events at our AQA offices in Manchester and Guildford as we normally would. Instead, the schools and young people joined a private YouTube session hosted by Adam Whitehead, Olympic swimmer and athlete manager at the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
The session outlined what the young people will be doing over the coming months of the programme and how the athletes will work with each school. It also touched on how the social action projects might work this year with COVID restrictions in place.
Adam also introduced all the athletes the students will be working with on the programme, including England netball star Serena Guthrie. Each athlete shared a few words about their own background and experiences, and how much they were looking forward to working with their individual schools.
Serena said: "I cannot wait to be out there delivering the AQA Unlocking Potential programme this year, its my first one and I'm super pumped! I can't wait to meet my young people and we are going to have an absolute blast."
The young people will work with their athletes over the next few months to increase their confidence, learn new things and realise their full potential.
