77989 MAKING A SIMPLE KITE
In successfully completing this unit, the Learner will have | Evidence needed | |
---|---|---|
demonstrated the ability to | ||
1 | select suitable materials for making the kite, ie sticky tape, tissue paper, diihedral joint, 'D' ring, dowel, string, flying line and handle | Summary sheet |
2 | use the tissue paper to make a square sail measuring 100cms x 100cms | Summary sheet |
3 | use a ruler and pencil to find the midpoint at the top and bottom of the sail and make a mark | Summary sheet |
4 | measure 15cms down from the top edge of the sail on both sides and make a mark | Summary sheet |
5 | draw a line to connect each of the midpoint marks to the 15cm marks so that a kite shape is formed | Summary sheet |
6 | attach a length of sticky tape along each of the pencil lines to add strength | Summary sheet |
7 | cut along the pencil lines with a pair of scissors to form the kite shape | Summary sheet |
8 | decorate the kite sail | Summary sheet and/or photograph(s) |
9 | select a piece of dowel and place along the length of the sail, mark with a pencil and cut to length | Summary sheet |
10 | slide the dihedral joint along the cut dowel to a length of 15cms | Summary sheet |
11 | lay the spine of the dihedral joint flat on the reverse of the sail so that the two holes are facing upwards and are level with the widest point of the sail | Summary sheet |
12 | insert two pieces of dowel into the dihedral joint to make the cross spars and cut to length | Summary sheet |
13 | attach the spine and spars to the sail using sticky tape | Summary sheet |
14 | make a small hole on each side of the spine immediately below the dihedral joint | Summary sheet |
15 | make another small hole on each side of the spine 15cms from the bottom of the sail | Summary sheet |
16 | cut two lengths of string each measuring 1.2m and pass them through the holes | Summary sheet |
17 | raise the piece of string nearest to the dihedral joint to an angle of 45 degrees and attach both pieces of string to a 'D' ring | Summary sheet |
18 | attach a flying line and handle to the 'D' ring | Summary sheet and/or photograph(s) |
