In successfully completing this unit, the Learner will have		Evidence needed
shown knowledge of
1	the main reasons why goats on a farm need to be identifiable	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
2	the main reasons for following the correct procedures for ear tattooing and tagging for animal welfare and health and safety	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
demonstrated the ability to
3	name at least six items of equipment and surgical materials used in tattooing and ear tagging	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
4	name at least two correct positions for siting an ear tag	Summary sheet and/or student completed work
5	select the correct equipment for ear tagging	Summary sheet
6	hold the animal firmly but calmly against a secure barrier	Summary sheet
7	insert an ear tag onto the tagger	Summary sheet
8	position the tagger over the ear, allowing for ear growth and avoiding veins	Summary sheet
9	close and release the tagger, checking that the tag has pierced through the ear and has clamped closed.	Summary sheet
