118853 DEVELOPING JOINERY SKILLS (UNIT 6): A SHELVING UNIT

In successfully completing this unit, the Learner will have		Evidence needed
demonstrated the ability to
1	accurately measure, mark out and cut all timber from the project cutting list using the correct tools	Summary sheet
2	router 12mm grooves down all four 350x44x44m timber pieces, 7mm from the edge	Summary sheet
3	router 12mm tongues down either side of both the 350x94x44mm timber pieces	Summary sheet
4	use sash clamps and glue to fix tonged timber in between pairs of grooved timber pieces to form two side panels	Summary sheet
5	create the top, bottom and shelves by joining pairs of 280mm and 200mm 94x20 timber together lengthways	Summary sheet
6	measure, mark out and cut housing joints 100-112mm and 220-232mm from the top of the side panels, using the correct tools	Summary sheet
7	measure, mark out and cut dovetailed ‘T’ halving joints at the ends of both 260mm 47x20mm timber pieces	Summary sheet
8	create the corresponding dovetail cut outs in the rear of the cabinet sides between the shelves, making use of the correct tools	Summary sheet
9	glue and clamp both 200mm shelves and dovetailed cross struts in place securely	Summary sheet
10	router a decorative edge profile around the perimeter of the 280mm top and base, then glue and pin them to the top and bottom of the cabinet sides.	Summary sheet
11	accurately measure, mark out and cut finger joints in the remaining timber to create a 150mm x 180mm drawer	Summary sheet
12	router a 6mm internal rebate on all drawer sides 6mm up from the base, insert plywood into the rebate, then glue and clamp the drawer together	Summary sheet
13	sand and varnish the cabinet to a high quality finish and fit a drawer handle	Photograph(s)
