1	use scissors safely to cut the thread to a required length	Summary sheet
2	thread a large-eyed needle, with support	Summary sheet
3	position and sew a button through the holes securely onto an item of clothing or piece of fabric	Summary sheet
4	finish sewing by making a backstitch or tying a knot to secure the thread at the back of the material	Summary sheet
5	trim the thread safely after finishing sewing	Summary sheet
shown knowledge of
6	the main different types of garment fastenings, eg button, velcro, elastic, pin	Student completed work
