114468 TEXTILES: MAKING AN ITEM OF CLOTHING

In successfully completing this unit, the Learner will have		Evidence needed
demonstrated the ability to
1	investigate and research the construction of at least two existing items of clothing	Student completed work and/or summary sheet
2	attempt a 2D drawing or sketch to design their item	Student completed work
3	select a basic pattern for an item of clothing	Summary sheet
4	use dressmaking pins to safely pin the pattern to the material	Photograph(s) and/or summary sheet
5	use scissors with precision to cut out the material, following the pattern	Summary sheet
6	thread a needle with appropriately coloured cotton thread	Summary sheet
7	use simple tacking stitches to sew the pieces of fabric together	Student completed work and/or photograph(s)
8	use running stitches to hem the pieces as required	Student completed work and/or photograph(s)
9	sew the material together in the correct places using running and over-locking stitches	Photograph(s) and/or student completed work
10	attach a clothing label and decorate or customise the item of clothing.	Photograph(s) and/or student completed work
